The Internet has progressed a lot in the past 10 years. The only thing that hasn’t changed is the #1 web browser which Microsoft’s Internet Explorer still holds strong after all these years. Granted the “IE Bus” has lost its way, it’s still on the right track even with slipping ground. Back in the end of 2004, Internet Explorer represented over 91% of all web surfers. Those numbers have now dropped to around 72% in the past 4 years.
It’s clear to see that the Internet is growing up. However to most people, there is no Internet Explorer. There’s simply the “Internet.” Much like back when AOL was in full swing and you would ask somebody “Do you have the Internet at home?” And they’d respond: “No, I have AOL.” As these novices expand their minds people are quickly reaizing you have a choice. No longer are you stuck with a single web browser with its own set of security holes — now you can pick your insecurities. Too bad most of the people discovering Firefox have one insecurity they can’t cure themselves of — Windows with a horde of updates awaiting them.
