Preparing for the future

Personal Rants

I was recently chatting with Alex, one of DailyBlogged’s writers, and he raised a very good question; “What are we going to do with DailyBlogged when the 1525 is completely obsolete?” To that I had no answer. I have a Dual Core Processor on my 1525, not a Core 2 Duo, and so if Snow Leopard is 64-bit only like it’s rumored then I won’t be able to run it. I started to think about what we would talk about and what the people would want to hear about. I then decided, why not ask the people what the people want? So here I am to ask you: When the 1525 becomes obsolete, what would you like to see posted/talked about on DailyBlogged? Leave a comment about what you would like to see so that we can keep DailyBlogged running for as long as possible. If you make a good suggestion, I will edit this post to include your idea below.

Possible ideas:

-Installing OS X (Most likely Snow Leopard) on a computer with a G31M-ES2L Motherboard (my budget motherboard)

I’m writing this comment from Winodws 7 64-bit so it seems that I will be able to install Snow-Leopard. Hooray!

The secret is to be patient and bid only at the few final seconds :-)

Hahaha I know, I know. I’ve done a bit of eBay biding before so I’ve gotten decently good. One item I was watching went too high so now I’ve got my eye on another Core 2 Duo ending in about 10 hours.

Acting on a hunch, I checked intel.com and they list my processor as supporting 64-bit. My BIOS says that my processor doesn’t support 64-bit. I’m going to make some space and then see if I can install Windows 7 64-bit. If I can they awesome cause that means I won’t need a new processor. I’ll report back in a bit with my findings.

Ok I have a couple bids on some Core 2 Duo’s ending in a couple hours. If it works out then we will continue with Snow Leopard when it’s released. Problem is, I’m saving up $160 for a Quad Core Processor I’m going to buy in a week for my Desktop. I only have around $25 to bid with so I might get outbid. If I do then I will keep looking for more deals on ebay so all hope won’t be lost. If anyone wants to help me increase my bid (wink wink) just let me know.

Well, go to eBay and buy a Core 2 Duo!
It’s really cheap and you’ll actually feel the difference :-)

I could write about hacking the Dell Mini 9, but that’s been covered on a million other sites.

I would like to see the site sticking to HackBooks. I mean, this site is the #1 or in the top 5 results for any “HackBook” search and I think for a good reason. Keeping with the portable consumer would be best as there are many different desktop configurations to make Mac “work” — with a laptop you don’t have many options in building your own. Maybe when Snow Leopard hits it’s time to get a new laptop or write about different portable devices that can run Mac OS X (Netbooks?).

I agree with you 100% but I can’t just go out and get a new netbook, let alone another laptop. I was lucky enough to get the 1525 so writing about hackintoshing another laptop wouldnt be possible for me.
